Congratulations to the Osborn Family on their
recent Purchase of Rembrandt.Com
Rembrandt.com is a truly remarkable horse and Johnny and
Heather recognized it in spite of very obvious neurological damage.
When "Remi" was
only a weanling, he was kept in a pasture with several other horses and
during one of those terrible lightning storms which Florida is noted
for, ALL of the horses were struck by lightning. After the
storm, when
the owners went out to the pasture, only one horse survived and
that was Remi. The strike had disabled Remi so that he could no
longer walk or hold his head straight and it appeared that Remi would
never be able
to live a normal life again. The recommendation was to put him
down
but the kind people who owned Remi decided to give him the chance to
live.
After months, he
began to show some improvement and Johnny and Heather were asked to
work with the
horse and try to halter break him. This was accomplished and Remi
was
taken home and put back out to pasture until the owner's brought him
back
to Spotted Haven at 18 months old to break him. From early on,
Heather
and Johnny recognized his potential and decided to purchase Remi.
Daily workouts proved
Remi to be a very sweet horse who just went along with the flow -
probably due to some brain damage from the strike. One would
never call him spirited but he showed a tremendous will to get better
and he did!
To this day, Remi will
give you some of the strangest looks but that "loose" or "laid back"
movement produced an incredible head shake which is one of the reasons
he won the 2002 World Grand Championship
Kegshod National Spotted
Saddle Horse.
